Body Prayer Workshop

Wednesday, October 9 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm CDT

Free

Body Prayer is a form of contemplative movement expressing devotion and gratitude through simple and meaningful body gestures. It is based on Judeo-Christian phrases that can be applied to all spiritual paths and religious backgrounds. Body Prayer is derived from the therapeutic and artistic form of movement called Eurythmy introduced by Rudolf Steiner, a German philosopher and scientist of mind and spirit, in the early 1900s. Cynthia Hutchison, DNSc, MSN, HTCP/I, adapted some of Steiner’s work into her understanding of Body Prayer. This practice is based on her background in Eurythmy and prayer. She has since shared it with many and is the mentor for the instructor of this class.

In this workshop, the participant learns the movements of three Body Prayers and their meanings. No dance experience is necessary, but it is helpful if participants have good balance and moderate exercise ability. Those who are challenged with balance or gait, are welcome to attend and can still receive benefits from doing the movements in a chair. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended.

NOTE: Light snacks will be provided beginning at 5:30 pm before the program.
