Joining and Working at CWC
Written By: Matt Pochowicz
Almost four months ago, I had no idea where life was going to take me. I was about to graduate from Lake Forest College, but I had no clear plans for my future. At the time, I was a marketing intern for a healthcare credentialing company in Chicago, but was focused on finding a full time job so that I could start to support myself. Towards the end of the school year I started to interview with some companies, but they did not feel like the right fit for me. Even though the interviews went well, the feel in the office did not feel right. Most places were not as warm and welcoming as I thought they would be and with so many individuals working at these companies, it felt like I would become more of a number than a person within that company. Now, a little bit of fear started to set in, but luckily my internship ran through the end of June.
Then, I stumbled upon a job posting for a Marketing Data Analyst position with the Cancer Wellness Center. At the time, I had no idea what the Center was or did, but after I learned more about the center and their mission, I knew it would be the right place for me. What stuck out to me the most was that the work I would be doing would be helping individuals when they need help and assistance the most. I was lucky enough to receive an email back and set up an interview. The interviews went well and eventually I was offered a job to join the Cancer Wellness Center’s team. After my short time working at the center, I can say that I am very glad I accepted the offer. Working at the center has been extremely enjoyable and everything that I could ask for. Everyone at the center has been extremely welcoming and friendly and being a part of a small team has allowed to connect with all of my coworkers. There is a family atmosphere that exists here among the employees that I believe extends to our participants. Every day, I know that the work I do helps to support people dealing with a cancer diagnosis. I look forward to helping carry out the Center’s mission of improving the emotional and physical well-being of those affected by cancer.
