Forest Therapy for Those Impacted by Cancer
Tuesday, May 23, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CDT
Join us at the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve, Chicago, for a mindful, sensory forest therapy experience to re-connect to nature, ourselves and each other. We will give our thinking brains a break, and tune into our senses and notice what’s around us and inside us with curiosity and compassion.
Open to those impacted by cancer, their loved ones, and those bereaved. This is a special one-time FREE offering thanks to the Forest Preserves of Cook County Connecting People to Nature Program.
Nature and Forest Therapy Guide Sarah Abu-Absi (of That Forest Feeling) will lead us in a 2-hour forest therapy experience, in collaboration with Cancer Wellness Center staff.
Studies show that forest therapy (aka forest bathing) provides a wide range of benefits for our physical and mental health, including improved immunity, nervous system regulation, improved mood, mental clarity, attention span, creativity and more. But so many other benefits can arise when we slow down and tend to our relationship with nature in the present moment — the possibilities are endless.
Program will include:
– overview of forest therapy and group introductions
– guided sensory meditation (sitting or laying down on the ground)
– invitations to engage with nature in different mindful, sensory, playful, or heart-centered ways
– opportunities to share with each other what we are noticing.
It is a very gentle, open-ended practice that participants are encouraged to adapt to suit their needs and preferences.
We don’t walk far at all — we will be moving very slowly and sometimes not at all. We invite you to wear comfortable, layered clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty if you sit on the ground, and/or to bring something to sit or lay on like a towel, blanket or chair.
Program registration will be handled through Sarah’s website. Please register HERE An email sent after registration will include a map link and directions to the location.
