Virtual: Anxiety & Stress Management Workshop Series
Monday, February 7, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm CST
FreeJoin Michelle, Clinical Associate, for a six-part psycho educational workshop series designed to help you learn useful tools for addressing anxiety and feel more confident in your ability to manage distress, worry and uncertainty.
Each session will have a separate focus:
Session 1 (October 13th): Fear of Cancer Recurrence (FCR): Understanding FCR and Exploring Ways to Cope
Participants will learn the common causes and symptoms of fear of cancer recurrence. We will explore the impact of FCR on an individual’s thoughts, feelings, body, and behavior and discuss techniques for coping with it to live a more worry-free life.
Session 2 (November 22nd): Anxiety and the Brain: The Stress Response
Where does anxiety come from? Learn about the areas of your brain which trigger feelings of anxiety in your body and anxious thoughts in your mind and how you can silence false alarms. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their stressors and responses to stress to develop more effective coping skills.
Session 3 (January 10): Mindful Living: Introduction to Mindfulness
Learn about mindfulness and how powerful a tool it is for treating anxiety and remaining in the present moment. Mindfulness activities will be reviewed and practiced, and students will discover ways to incorporate these practices into their everyday life.
Session 4 (February 7): Living in the Unknown: How to Manage Uncertainty
Learn how to challenge the need for certainty by looking at the advantages and disadvantages of needing to be certain and how it affects us. Students will discover ways to feel more present in day-to-day life and learn to better tolerate, even embrace, the inevitable uncertainty of life.
Session 5 (March 21): Self Care & Compassion: You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup
Learn about real self-care and take an honest look at your life to see how (and why) you can fit more into your schedule. Participants will learn about the dimensions of self-care, how it impacts their stress and anxiety levels and make a self-care plan to implement at home.
Session 6 (April 18): The Mental Gym: Cognitive Distortions and Unhelpful Thinking Patterns
Discover the relationships between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and identify the thinking patterns that increase your anxiety. Students will learn different ways to challenge their distorted thinking patterns and what to do when they get caught up in a cycle of negative thinking.
